Turnkey website cost: why cheap ends up costing more

In short: a cheap website is fast food for your business: it ranks poorly, it’s easy to hack, and within a year or two it needs rebuilding — so you pay twice. WebCode.Agency is all about quality: our projects bring businesses profit for years.

Why website prices vary tenfold

Everyone sells websites today: agencies, freelancers, website builders — and now services that “generate a site with AI in an evening.” Hence the expectations: a landing page for $200–300, an online store for $2,000.

But the same label, “turnkey website,” covers completely different products. One is a template with your text dropped in. The other is a sales tool designed around your customers, search demand and business processes. From the outside you can’t always tell them apart — the difference shows a few months later, in leads, Google rankings and security.

What a cheap website hides

A cheap website is often a pig in a poke. Here’s what usually surfaces after launch:

  • Search crawlers barely see it. Template or generated code, slow loading, duplicate pages, no structured data. Google and AI search rarely show such a site, and paid ads become your only source of customers.
  • It isn’t safe. Outdated plugins, pirated premium themes with someone else’s code inside, weak admin passwords. Through holes like these, attackers inject spam pages, casino ads or redirects to unrelated businesses — and your domain lands on browser blocklists.
  • It doesn’t sell. Forms don’t feed a CRM, there’s no analytics, and you can’t tell which ad brought a lead. You have a website, but you can’t manage sales through it.
  • It can’t grow. Adding payments, an accounting integration or a new section is easier to do from scratch.
  • No one is responsible for it. After launch, hosting, updates and backups become your problem.

A number from Google

As page load time goes from 1 to 3 seconds, the probability of a visitor bouncing increases by 32% (Think with Google). A slow template means ad money spent on people who never saw your offer.

Check your website in 5 minutes

Five free checks that show whether your website is working for your business:

  1. Speed. Enter your URL in PageSpeed Insights. Below 50 on mobile, and you’re losing visitors before the first screen loads.
  2. Indexing. Search Google for site:yourdomain.com. If far fewer pages show up than your site has, search only sees part of your offer.
  3. Security. Open Google Search Console → “Security issues.” It also shows whether any foreign pages have appeared on your site.
  4. Platform and plugins. The Wappalyzer extension shows what your site is built on. If it’s a template with dozens of plugins, find out when they were last updated.
  5. The lead journey. Submit a test enquiry from your phone. It should land in your CRM right away, along with its source — an ad, search or a referral.

Tip

If at least two checks revealed a problem, send us your website address — we’ll find what’s holding back your sales and tell you what’s worth changing.

What you’re really paying for

A good website costs money because it’s the work of experienced people, not a ready-made file. Here’s what goes into the price:

  1. Business analysis. Who your customers are, what they search for, and why they should choose you.
  2. A structure built for search. Pages for real customer queries, clean URLs, structured data and speed — the foundation that brings in traffic from Google and AI search for years.
  3. Design that builds trust. Not just “pretty,” but clear enough that a visitor understands your offer and gets in touch.
  4. Business logic. Leads straight into your CRM, payments, shipping, accounting sync, calculators — the things that turn a website into a sales tool.
  5. Security and reliable hosting. Clean code, attack protection, a managed server, backups, 24/7 monitoring.
  6. Experience. Solutions proven on dozens of projects — you don’t pay for someone else’s mistakes and experiments.

It’s no accident that Amazon, Apple and Mercedes-Benz don’t run on templates. They know a generic template won’t make their business money: speed, analytics, pages for a specific audience, technical and security decisions all have to be built for them.

Think of it as food

A cheap website is fast food for your business: quick and cheap now, but before long it does a lot of damage — lost customers, lost Google rankings, wasted ad budget.

A quality website is a healthy diet. Good food costs more, and we all understand why: you don’t cut corners on your health. And your website is the health of your business online.

What’s included in a turnkey website from WebCode.Agency

This is how we build corporate websites, online stores and landing pages. Every project includes:

  • PageSpeed 90+ — no speed-up plugins needed, because there’s no bloated code.
  • A structure built for search and AI — pages for customer queries, clean URLs, structured data.
  • Leads straight into your CRM — each with its source: ads, search or a referral.
  • Integrations — payments, shipping, accounting, telephony, messengers. More on our automation and integrations page.
  • Hosting, protection and 24/7 monitoring — daily backups and security updates on our servers in 7 countries.
  • Your Google rankings preserved — when moving from an old site, we keep URLs and set up 301 redirects.
  • A fixed price in the contract and staged payments.
  • A warranty on our code and full access: the code, the domain and the data are yours.

Cheap now, costly later

The bottom lineA quality website costs less in the end, because you pay once

A rebuild a year or two later is a second payment for the same website. Add the customers you missed while the old site wasn’t selling. Better to pay for quality once than to pay twice.

When is a template enough? For a small business with basic needs — a business card site, a few services, contact details — a template or WordPress works fine. But once you have traffic, ad budgets and real sales, a template becomes a ceiling: every new task runs into its limits.

From our practice

A French medical company came to us with a WordPress website. Its PageSpeed score was 55 on mobile and 68 on desktop. Reaching 90+ and proper SEO would have meant either buying several more premium plugins or stripping out so much that there’d be almost nothing left of WordPress.

We built the site on our own platform, with no bloated code or paid plugins and a structure built around search queries. Speed: 91 on mobile and 98 on desktop. Google liked a site that opens instantly, and that became one of the drivers of SEO growth: from 700–900 visits a month to 4,500 (+460%), then 6,100 (+660%) and counting.

PageSpeed55 → 91mobile: 55 → 91, +65%
desktop: 68 → 98, +44%
Visits from Google+660%per month, with the same marketing

Visits from Google per month

Growth is measured from the pre-move average of 800 visits per month.

The key point: medicine is a tough niche with lots of restrictions and few ways to stand out. The marketing stayed the same — a technically strong website delivered multiple-fold growth.

What drives the cost of a turnkey website

Five things move the price. These are the questions to ask when comparing studio proposals:

  1. Depth of preparation. Before every project, we research your target audience, analyze competitors, map out the business logic of your niche and draw up a project blueprint. Templates skip this step — yet it’s what decides whether the site will bring in leads.
  2. Number of pages and templates. A 15-page site with three page types and an 80-page site with ten are different projects.
  3. How many systems need connecting. CRM, accounting, payments, shipping, telephony. Every integration is separate work, with testing.
  4. Private areas. A client or partner login area takes you to portal territory.
  5. Content and design. Copy, photos, a second language, custom design.

That’s why an honest price for a turnkey website only appears after we’ve looked at your task — not from a price list starting at $199.

How not to buy a pig in a poke: 6 questions for a studio

  1. Will the price be fixed in the contract? The total should only grow if you add scope and approve it in writing.
  2. Is there an itemized estimate? A “turnkey website” with no breakdown is a setup for extra charges later.
  3. Which live sites and case studies can I see? Not mockups, but working projects with results — like those in our portfolio.
  4. How will the site be optimized for search? Speed, structure and structured data should be part of the work, not a separate service for “someday.”
  5. Who is responsible for security and hosting after launch? Backups, updates, monitoring.
  6. Will the domain, code and data be yours? You should get full access and be able to export your data at any time.

FAQ

Can you get a quality website cheaply?

Very rarely. A quality website takes hours of work from an analyst, a designer, developers and testers. If the price is several times below the market, something on that list is almost always being cut — and it will show later.

Can I move my site off WordPress without losing Google rankings?

Yes. We migrate the content, keep page URLs or set up 301 redirects from old addresses to new ones, and carry over titles, descriptions and structured data. Rankings usually fluctuate for two to three weeks and then recover — and a faster site often gives them an extra boost.

Can a cheap website be fixed instead of rebuilt?

Sometimes, but it’s usually more cost-effective to rebuild on a solid foundation. During the move we keep your URLs and Google rankings, and migrate your content and leads.

How much does a simple business website cost?

If you need one page with your service and a contact form, a landing page will do: live in 10 days. If you need several services, a blog and search visibility, go for a corporate website. Both are priced for your task and fixed in the contract.

How long does it take to build a turnkey website?

A landing page takes from 10 days, a corporate website 3–5 weeks, an online store 2–6 weeks. The exact timeline is fixed in the contract along with the price.

How much does a turnkey website cost at WebCode.Agency?

We price every project for your specific task. Within 72 hours we send an itemized proposal, and the agreed amount is fixed in the contract before work starts.
